Did you know that SIDS is the leading cause of death in infants between 1 month and 1 year of age? Each year, about 4,000 infants die unexpectedly during sleep time, from SIDS, accidental suffocation, or unknown causes. This is a good time to share information concerning a safe sleep environment with parents of children. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention collaborates with the National Institutes of Health in its Safe to Sleep campaign. Safe to Sleep aims to educate parents, caregivers, and health care providers about ways to reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep-related causes of infant death. It is a public education campaign and provides outreach and education activities. Materials can be viewed, downloaded or printed right from the Safe to Sleep web site at http://www.nichd.nih.gov/sts/Pages/default.aspx. Further information is also available on the www.cdc.gov/sids/ and www.healthychildcare.org web sites.
